Our partner Leila Ghahhary recently moderated a panel on Tech / AI at The European Circuit of the Bar’s Annual Conference hosted by the prestigious T.M.C. Asser Instituut at The Hague.
Leila’s panel discussed the “Real-world Deployment of AI'” and included: Emily Gillett (Senior Research Scholar at the Institute for Law & AI); Professor Machiko Kanetake (Director of the T.M.C. Asser Instituut); Dee Masters (Barrister at Cloisters Chambers, London); and Thomas Seeber (CEO of Realest8 Technologies, Vienna).
The Annual Conference was held between September 18-20 to address the overarching theme of “Lawyering in a Phase of Upheaval”. The programme included: a reception at the Residence of the Czech Ambassador to The Netherlands; a stakeholder visit to the International Criminal Court (“ICC”) with a welcome address from British ICC Judge Joanna Korner CMG KC; and a keynote speech by Judge of the ICC and Canadian Jurist, Kimberly Prost.
The Annual Conference featured dedicated panels on Trade, Climate, and Migration, amongst others. A Bar Leaders Panel featured contributions from the Vice Chair of The Bar Council of England and Wales, the President of the Czech Bar, the Vice-Chair of the Council of the Bar of Ireland, the President of The Netherlands Bar, the Board of the Paris Bar, the Leader of the European Circuit, and the President Elect of the American Bar Association.

About The European Circuit
The European Circuit was the first new “Circuit” of the Bar of England & Wales to be created in some 300 years. Circuits have been part of the English legal landscape since the twelfth century. The term “Circuit” originally derived from the tour of particular towns carried out by the King’s judges. The European Circuit was created to address the realities of the 21st century, where contact between lawyers in different jurisdictions within Europe was becoming increasingly common.
The European Circuit has evolved to become an association of legal professionals across a broad definition of Europe, including the EU and all Council of Europe Member States. Members generally practise in the areas of dispute resolution and advocacy and share a common interest in European legal issues and cross-border practice.
